Garroth knew he was a man that was born for nothing short of perfection.
He was the man that his father used to scold cruelly in private with harsh beatings and forms that not even he could bring himself to mention, yet would praise him in public as his family's successor; the great "Garroth of O'khasis: future Juror of Nine." What a stupid title.
He found himself, as he grew older, struggling with himself. He was always such a sensitive little boy, crying at even being looked at wrong. But now as an adult, he didn't exactly know what to do with those feelings, let alone as a high knight. He couldn't spend his time crying over every person he had to arrest, or even those that the original Lord of Phoenix Drop had him slay. That would just be redundant and useless, like crying over spilled milk.
He was content to keeping his helmet on; if he had to cry, at least it was where nobody would see him.
But, with you in the village now, it's like it was impossible to hide anything from you. You had wandering eyes that noticed too much for your own good. Gentle fingers that even if they had scars were too soft for a man like him - a man who had executed dozens at the simple command to raise his sword. He didn't understand you, and that scared him.
He found himself lying awake in his bed, staring at the ceiling thinking about just what you wanted from him. Why did the memories of your hands lingering on him for just a breath too long stick the way it did? Why was your gentle smile always softer with him? Even though he knew you may not ever see his face it didn't stop you. You never asked to see him either and he couldn't understand why.
But his heart raced when you'd spot him. When you'd see him do something that was good just because he could do it. He didn't want to be where you couldn't see him, because what would that mean for him when he did something worthwhile, when you weren't there? Nobody noticed him the same way you did.
He found himself missing you more than anything. More than he ever thought he would want to.
