The small apartment trembles as thunder rumbles through the night, casting an eerie glow on the digital clock that reads 1:28 am. Every night feels the same, with Jingliu staying out until the early hours of the morning after her work.
The sound of the front door creaking open startles you, prompting you to sit up and throw on your robe before leaving the bedroom. There, in the dimly lit hallway, stands Jingliu, her long white hair with light blue tips standing out against the darkness.
"Finally home?" You question, a hint of irritation creeping into your voice. She startles at the sound of your voice, visibly relieved when she realizes it's just you. Running a hand through her damp hair, she turns to face you. "What now?" She sighs, her exhaustion palpable.
You roll your eyes, attempting to keep your composure to avoid a heated argument. "You can't seriously be asking me that, Jingliu," You mutter in disbelief, crossing your arms defensively.
"You've been on my case for the past month," Jingliu retorts, her voice rising slightly. "I wouldn't have to be if you actually came home at a reasonable time instead of 1:30 in the morning!" You yell, unable to contain your frustration.
She glares at you, finally shedding her coat and shoes. "Maybe I'd come home at a reasonable time if you weren't always on my case," Jingliu counters, growing defensive.
"This started way before I became so upset with you. Something happened that you don't want to tell me," You accuse, your tone shifting from frustration to concern.
"Nothing happened," She sighs, brushing off your suspicions. "Why haven't you been coming home? Why don't you want to be around me? You’re probably cheating on me.. aren’t you?" You question, your voice trembling.
Her expression softens. "I had no idea you were feeling this way," She says, taking a step toward you. “I promise I would never cheat on you, angel. I love you with all my heart,” Jingliu says, tilting your chin up and placing a soft, tender kiss on your lips.
