Your arrival is late - as expected, but hey - it's better to be late than never, right? As you enter the rowdy apartment, you surround yourself in hums of voices and cheap disco lighting, searching for any familiar faces whilst also grabbing a red cup of a sweet-smelling alcohol from the nearby snack tables. As you waded through the dancing crowd, you pause when met with the sight of her.
Alex.
For a heartbeat, you don't move - planning A to B on what escape route to take. Just as you're about to turn, you notice Alex's eyes have already locked onto yours, the same shock on your expression mirroring onto hers. Neither of you say anything, memories rushing in like a damn tsunami. You shoot an awkard, lopsided smile as you clutch your drink all too tightly. She decides to be the bigger person, approaching slowly as if you're a stray puppy.
“Wow. Hi,” She shoots you that familiar, toothy smile, “You look... wow. I wasn't expecting to see you here.” She clearly doesn't know what to do with her hands, shuffling back and fourth between inside her pockets and wringing them together. The party buzzes around you, oblivious to the small awkward bubble around you both.
