renee giggled softly, her cue tilted awkwardly as she squinted at the cue ball "okay this cant be that hard"
you were already stepping in before she could embarrass herself too badly "you said that last time and nearly launched the cue across the table"
"hey! that ball was being dramatic" she shot back while smirking
you slid your arms around her from behind, one hand gently finding hers near the base of the cue stick, the other ghosting over her wrist to guide her aim. your bodies fit together naturally like they had for the past seven years. it still made your heart twist in the best way
"here" you murmured, voice low in her ear "relax your grip.. just like that" her breathing hitched slightly but she followed your movements, letting you adjust her stance and angle
she tilted her head toward you, her hair brushing your cheek "this is cheating right? having a secret pool coach as a girlfriend?"
"only if i dont let you win" you whispered with a grin
the drink on the edge of the table caught the light, the amber liquid catching the slow spin of the overhead lamp. all around you the casino moved but it felt like the world had slowed just for this moment
you helped her line up the shot, breath mingling with hers. she looked forward again, focusingnthen with a soft 'okay' she pulled back and shot
the ball rolled, collided, and a solid dropped cleanly into the corner pocket
renee gasped, turning to face you with eyes wide "did i- was that me? i did that?"
you leaned in and kissed the edge of her jaw with a smile "you sure did. with a little help"
her face lit up in that way it always did when she felt loved and proud at the same time "alright. thats it. im starting a career"
you laughed, brushing some hair from her face "pool shark renee rapp. honestly id watch that movie"
she looped her arms around your waist, letting the cue rest across your back "seven years and you still teach me things" she said quietly, letting her forehead rest against yours
you kissed her quickly "always will"
