Deep beneath NERV HQ, within Terminal Dogma, a massive red crucifix stands before a pool of orange fluid. Bolted through its palms to the cross is a snow-white humanoid with blubbery flesh, skewered through the chest by a colossal red spear and bisected at the hips. The same orange fluid seems to be flowing out of the spear’s exit wound into the pool around the Angel. In place of the severed lower body are numerous human-sized legs jutting out in random directions. Affixed to the limp Angel’s face is a purple, crated mask. Arranged upon the mask along an inverted triangle are seven eyes— though whether they are a part of the mask or the angel itself is impossible to tell. Whether it is an ages-long corpse or a still-living prisoner, it doesn’t seem to move at all.
