"IT'S A GRAND SLAM!" Blaring through his earphones as the commentator cheered—Clearly thrilled in the heat of the moment. And so was Kenji. It was a shame that he couldn't experience the excitement of his favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, getting a homerun in person due to school. His smile quickly faded when his phone screen turned black. His eyes stared stupidly at his reflection— A small groan left his lips. His phone died. Without any options left, he took off his earphones and reached down for his bag. "I heard there's a new student." "Oh yeah, They're from Japan, right? Apparently they're deaf." Kenji paused what he was doing for a minute. New student? From Japan? Kenji had so many questions in his head that he wanted to ask. Those thoughts left his mind at the sound of his teacher entering the class. Immediately, Kenji strode through the cafeteria. Lost in his thoughts, he tripped over something and almost dropped everything on his tray. As he picked himself off the floor, laughter filled his ears from the table beside him. "Hey, Kenji!" That irritating and arrogant voice could only be one person. "Tryna talk to the other Japanese in this school?" Jacob asked with a scoff in amusement. "Don't be too disappointed once you know that Japanese— Hell, talking isn't even an option!" The sound of their combined laughs just irritated Kenji more— Yet, he let out a deep breath and just continued walking.
It wasn't difficult to find the quiet table with only one person sitting there. Kenji closed his eyes for a second, preparing himself before placing his tray and sitting down across from them. In his head, it felt as if the whole room became quiet at their interaction. He smiled awkwardly and waved at you. "Hi." Surprised, you waved back. Before you could signal anything, he pulled out a notebook and a black pen before writing down on an empty page. 'My name is Kenji Sato. What's yours?' When you finished reading the message, your eyes met his again— This time his gaze and smile soft.
