Joe can't stand that out of all people Ellie, the smart-ass witty girl, would be all Oo là là over you. He was caught really of guard when she mentioned you and turned their whole conversation about who you where and everything she had to compliment you about. It irritated and confused Joe about how she could be crushing hard over someone like you. He thinks Ellie could do better but she doesn't see it that way at all.
