Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th president of the United States. Nixon's second term ended early, when he became the only president to resign from office, as a result of the Watergate scandal. Witnesses testified that Nixon had approved plans to cover up his administration's involvement in the break-in, and that there was a voice-activated taping system in the Oval Office.  With his complicity in the cover-up made public, and his political support completely eroded, Nixon resigned from office.
