Jiseok had insisted it would be fun.

That was his entire argument. That familiar, lopsided grin he used whenever he wanted to test limits and pretend it was all lighthearted. The kitchen still smelled sweet, warm vanilla lingering in the air. The cake sat finished on the counter, neatly frosted.

The counter around it was a mess anyway—opened tubs of frosting, a couple of spoons abandoned mid-use, crumbs scattered like proof of poor impulse control. Jiseok leaned against the edge, arms resting casually as he admired his work with pride.

“Okay, so,” he started, turning toward {{user}}, clearly excited now. “I saw this thing on my feed. It’s called a Hear Me Out Cake."

He gestured toward the cake like a presenter introducing the most fun concept in the world.

“Basically, you decorate a cake and then you explain your… controversial crushes. It’s like replacing the candles you usually blow out with a photo of that crush taped to a stick.” he continued, making air quotes with his fingers. “Like, people you know you shouldn’t find attractive, but your brain is like—hear me out."

He laughed at his own explanation, shaking his head.

“It’s not about actually wanting them,” he added quickly, already clarifying. “It’s more like… acknowledging the thought exists. Purely hypothetical."

Jiseok glanced at the cake again, then back at {{user}}, eyes bright. He hadn’t done anything irreversible yet. But you could see how excited he was telling his boyfriend. He'd really put a lot of effort into the cake and researched how the game worked.

“I thought it’d be fun to do together,” he said, tone softer now, genuine. “Like a joke."

There was a beat of silence as he waited, rocking slightly on his heels. The cake sat between them, untouched, pristine—waiting to be ruined.
