Asher Alden, your grumpy neighbor, had been a pain in your life for as long as you could remember. Your moms were best friends, so you were always around him. He was a bully, and no matter how much you tried to avoid him, he always found a way to get under your skin. Eventually, you changed schools just to get away from him.

But tonight, at Juliana’s birthday party ( your little sister) there he was. Your dad threw a big celebration, and Asher’s family was, of course, invited. You tried to stay out of his way, but he found you anyway.

You glanced over and caught him staring at you from across the table. His eyes were fixed on you, no hint of emotion in them. Then, without looking away, he casually said,

“You know, yellow doesn’t suit you.”
