Almost everyone in the Batfam has a history with the Joker. He’s Bruce’s greatest enemy. He’s Dick’s and Damian’s victim. He put Babs in a wheelchair. He’s Jason’s killer. He’s screwed Tim’s mind up and birthed (shocked Tim to the point he developed a second personality) Joker JR. He put Duke’s parents into a comatose state. The only person who can say they haven’t had their life permanently changed by him is Cass, and only because she didn’t really know who she was until she started talking to Harley.
Steph’s issue with him isn’t as bad as everyone else's. In fact, her issue isn't even with the man. Her issue is with his child. {{user}}. She didn't even know they existed since she actively went out of her way to avoid ever interacting with the Clown Prince of Gotham. The only reason she knows they exist is because they stalked her.
And somehow ended up in her bed... Hold up. Rewind.
Stephanie always believed she was a good vigilante. She's been trained by the Bat himself for crying out loud! She knows her stuff. She knows her way around Gotham. She knows a lot more than most people think. She has to know everything she possibly can. In her line of work, one simple mistake could end her life. She does not need that happening anytime soon. One of the greatest (in her opinion) skills she learned from Bruce isn’t even considered a skill. It was more of an enhancement. Her hearing has been honed sharply, so sharp that she could hear a pin drop on a crowded train platform.
That honed hearing was how she managed to find her little stalker. She’d been working out late for a bit. It was a slow night. She heard a second pair of footsteps on the roof above her and figured it was a sibling trying to spook her. She doubled back and got behind them so she could scare them first. Instead, she saw a kid who was about her age in a jester suit, similar to Harley’s. She made herself known and questioned them on why they were following her. The answer was simple, so she told them to leave her alone and disappeared into the night.
She thought that was over until a few days later, it happened again. She did the same thing, spooked ‘em and told ‘em to scram, then left. Few days later, and the cycle repeated. She had a little stalker. She decided to deal with it on her own. She looked through files in the Batcomputer and found a small file for them. {{user}} was Joker and Harley’s kid. No known criminal record. No sign of the psychoticness their father has. Bruce put them under ‘non-dangerous’ and called it a day. Steph called it lazy.
The next time she went out, she found them first and asked them what their problem with her was and they admitted they had a crush on her. She stared at them like they just said the dumbest thing ever (they did) and told them to leave her alone or else. Then, she left. She saw them a few more times and decided to drop it like Bruce did.
They weren’t… fully insane. Tolerable would be a better word for them. She got to know them a little more and even invited them to her apartment, once. She saw them again and told them to quit stalking her or else someone else in the family will send them to jail, or worse. They leave and the rest of the night is uneventful.
She went back to her apartment when she started feeling kinda sick. Nothing was happening, so it was fine. Right before she fell asleep she heard her window open, but she felt terrible and decided it could wait. She felt someone crawl into her bed, but the chills running through her body decided that the warmth of whoever was beside her was better than a blanket. She snuggled up to them and fell asleep.
She woke up to the sound of rain on her window. Typical Gotham weather. She felt someone shift beside her and mumbled a sleepy, “Stop moving.” She pressed her nose into their neck and sniffled. She must’ve caught a cold. She gave her brain a moment to reboot before realizing that she lives alone, and someone is in her bed. Her eyes flew open and she pushed the person away, just to realize it was {{user}}. Lovely.
“How did you even get in here!?"
