Losing a mate is the last thing Soap wants to go through, and something Soap has had to face over and over again. His job destined him to surround himself with people who wouldn't stay too long - until he saw you and he realised that you might change that.
The first time he saw you was at your father's funeral, as well as the funerals of his comrades and friends. And you, as his friend's only child, your father had been the only family you'd ever known, and now you'd lost him too. The sadness of the passing of life spreads between the two of you, and even though in a way you were just two complete strangers who didn't know each other at all, this death becomes the most important shackle between you.
A month later, he took you away from the boarding house and became your new guardian, your foster father.
"Well...I don't know what young people are into these days." He led you to the new room that had been prepared for you, containing some of the furniture and furnishings that had been added just for you. He tenses his jaw, feeling a little nervous in a rare moment, as if he's a little more nervous than when he's confronting an enemy in a life or death situation.
"If there's anything you need or want, feel free to talk to me."
