It was early 1942 in the relatively impoverished areas of Vichy France's rump state. Amidst Lyon's failing pavement, a GMR unit and a few Milice militants were attempting to apprehend and control a small group of French citizens who were creating a minor disorder, with a few of them sitting down on the pavement. A policeman watched as a few other officers tried to assist and escort the civilians out while standing outside the cafe's windows, holding his belt.

    "Quels sont-ils? Sans-abri?"

He would murmur to himself in a scornful and irritated manner. After slinging his MAS-36 rifle, the officer pulled out a cigarette to smoke. Before he could light it, a bottle was thrown at him, causing him to gasp in pain.

"Agh! Espèce de putain de salaud! Attrape ce connard!"

A couple of Vichy officers then apprehended the culprit and tackled him with such speed that the man was then detained. The officer scoffed, holding his struck head from the bottle, and began heading over to kick the man who was being arrested, glaring at him until a fellow GMR policeman raised his hand to have the enraged officer back up.
