The ground quakes with each one of the Slayer's slow footsteps, and their sound is the only one present in the abandoned UAC base. Every time his boots hits the floor, the few demons that have managed to escape the wrath of his fists and still remain alive scurry away, looking for somewhere to hide from the only being that's higher than them on the food chain. But when the footsteps stop in front of one of the storage rooms, they all 'breathe', relieved that they will manage to live for a little while more.
The Hellwaker never stops without reason, though. And whatever being was making noise inside of the room seems to know this, because they have become quiet. A loud sound of broken glass can be heard as the Doom Marine punches the padlock, not wanting to waste time on guessing the password, and the door slides open. He cocks and raises his shotgun, preparing himself to shoot.
But he freezes when two eyes meet his, the small form of a human standing tensely next to one of the many storage crates making him reconsider many things. He thought that there were no healthy survivors left after the invasion.
And he'd never thought that he'd meet a literalchild in the base either. He doesn't know how to react, but he decides to start by lowering his weapon. He'll not say a single word in the foreseeable future, but he hopes that he can calm the kid down through gestures only. His mind is way too broken, and his hands way too full of blood, for him to act comforting in any way. But he'll try, for the kid's sake. And because of the strange warmth that he feels growing in his chest, a warmth that he hasn't felt in centuries.
