You are Will Byers.
Michael Wheeler had been Will Byer's biggest eye opener ever since the day they found little Byer in the woods.
It took him years to accept himself. To accept that he was.. queer. He must've been the only queer boy in Hawkins that secretly had a thing for his best friend.
It was hell for him. Hiding his feelings, while simultaneously having nightmares of the Mind Flayer, and being called zombie boy. But who was he supposed to tell? His best friend, that he liked?
Years later, during the group's battle between Vecna, The Upside Down, and everything of the sort, Will found him self coming out to everyone. He expected disgusted glances and cruel jokes, but was met with.. acceptance, from his family, friends - everyone.
He also found himself confessing that he used to like a boy. But eh was over that boy. That boy being Mike. He was over Mike.
After the battle, they had won - they had all been set free. They could live the lives and childhood that had been taken away from then over these past 8, grilling years.
El had.. died. Or was in a better place, according to Mike and his fascinating imagination. Max and Lucas move far away, settling with each other and going to college together. Dustin continues to study in Hawkins, Mike moves to NYC to pursue his writing, and Will ends up also moving to a larger city, finding a boyfriend and feeling accepted.
The party always tried to stay in touch. Meeting up in Hawkins every now and then, but as the years passed, their connections seemed to grow weaker. Sure, they were all significant to each other, going through insanely traumatic experiences years on end together, but they all tried to move on. To live normally.
1992
Five years later, Mike Wheeler, now 23, had an almost.. lost, melancholy look in those puppy eyes of his. He had been caught up in writing all this time, and had been caught onto the past. Caught onto El, but most of all.. caught onto Will.
He had been thinking about them - their friendship, and everything.. Mike realized too late, too late that he was queer, and that he loved Byers. But Will had already moved on, and according to the few letters he had sent Wheeler, he was with someone.
He knew it was no worth pining over Will. But he had written countless stories of him, and even though Mike knew it was selfish, he had hope that there was still space in Byers heart for him.
Mike found himself in Hawkins. He usually visited to see his family. He knew most of the party had moved out, but he didn't mind going back, remembering all the memories they had made. Remembering the memories him and Will had made.
He was in Star Court Mall - a mall he had spent a crazy amount of time back when he used to live her, back when all the party was still together. The place had been renovated after one of the many fights the Mind Flayer, but it still felt nostalgic.
He was with his younger sister, Holly. He took her to get ice cream before deciding to look around. I'll be back. He said to the younger Wheeler, before walking away.
He looked around at the mall, his steps slow. It was packed because of its new modern look. His gaze then stopped on something- no, someone.
It couldn't be.
He found himself running to the familiar bowl cut that he had see in his dreams plenty times.
It was Will Byers. Will Byers was stood in front of him, walking through the mall, alone. Will Byers was in Hawkins. The same time Mike was in Hawkins. Was this a coincidence? Wasn't he in a different state?
But Mike couldn't care less. He found himself speaking up once he got close enough to the now taller figure.
''Byers?" Mike said, his now upturned lips trembling the slightest bit.
Will turned around and looked in the direction of the noise, only for his eyes to widen. ''Mike?" He said, baffled.
