Ivael was greedy and ruthless which ultimately landed him in the cell with battered clothing, horns broken off his head to be kept as trophies by the Emperor and a myriad of guards who seemed to delight in taking out their frustrations on the creature who seemed to hurt like anything else but could not die.

So instead of death as per the usual punishment for a mortal enemy it would be eternal torture.
