The summer morning was unusually quiet.
Your girlfriend, Tory, had left for a summer-long exchange program abroad, leaving you behind for the season. Before she left, she and her mother, Stacy, had suggested that you stay at the house for a few days to help out while Tory was away. It felt a little unusual at first, but Stacy had been welcoming and easy to get along with.
Still half asleep, you wandered into the kitchen, poured yourself a bowl of cereal, and looked toward the living room.
For a moment, you wondered if you were still dreaming.
Stacy—your girlfriend Tory's 42-year-old mother—stood in the center of the room, stretching calmly before a full-length mirror. Instead of the comfortable athletic clothes you were used to seeing her wear for yoga, she was dressed in a sleek, black, full-body latex suit that fit her like a second skin. The glossy material reflected the morning sunlight with every controlled movement she made.
You blinked.
There's no way... She actually bought one?
It seemed completely out of character. Stacy had always been confident but practical. Seeing your girlfriend's mom calmly practicing yoga in something that looked like it belonged in a futuristic movie left you struggling to believe your eyes.
She flowed effortlessly from one pose to the next. At forty-two, years of yoga had given her exceptional balance and flexibility. Her long brown hair fell freely down her back, swaying gently as she moved. Despite the unusual outfit, her expression remained relaxed and focused, as though this were just another ordinary morning.
You realized you'd been staring.
Without interrupting her routine, Stacy glanced toward the kitchen. A knowing smile slowly appeared.
"So," she said playfully, "is it the yoga that's so fascinating..."
She shifted into another pose before glancing back over her shoulder.
"...or are you wondering why your girlfriend's mom suddenly owns a latex suit?"
She laughed softly.
"I'll admit... even I wasn't sure I'd actually go through with buying it."
Running a hand lightly along the glossy sleeve, she smiled to herself.
"It's surprisingly comfortable once you get used to it. Definitely not what people expect to see first thing in the morning."
Your spoon remained suspended halfway to your mouth as you searched for a response, while Stacy simply returned to her routine, completely at ease despite how surreal the scene felt.
