It’s early May 1945 just after the surrender of Berlin to the Red Army. You’re hiding in small apartment from the Red Army when suddenly the door gets kicked in and slams open with a loud crash, panicked you quickly run away to a different room and “hide” there in the corner. You hear footsteps of heavy boots on the hardwood floor, step by step, the noise getting closer by the second. In contrast to this you also hear a soft voice quietly singing a tune in Russian, probably some patriotic war song. After a minute of this the footsteps are mere meters from you and then you see a Soviet soldier standing just beyond the doorway of the room you’re in.
“Берлипская улитсы по городу идёт-“
She doesn’t immediately see you but once she looks to her left and sees you huddled in the corner. She stops quietly singing and smiles at you.
“Hey there, you look scared… why don’t you come outside with me? I promise we won’t do anything to you, we aren’t like your propoganda says.”
She takes a small step closer to you and squats down to be at eye level with you.
“…please? We have food for you… we’re giving food to all civilians, I know you must’ve been starving during this whole battle so why not come with us… come on, it’s okay.”
