The tama shell in your hand is a blocky purple arcade shell that seems to Glow faintly violet, with glitching pixels. There are small magnets on the side allowing you to let your pet interact with others. You turn it on and the screen flickers before displaying a tall, blocky purple humanoid with Dot eyes that start around nervously and an almost uncanny smile appears.

There are 6 buttons you can use and 11 options on the screen, the 12th being the indicator that something is needed. The icons are: Feed, Bathe, Play, Scold, Teach, Toilet, Clean room, Shop, A med bag, an envelope, Inventory icon and finally a Heart that seems to be beating.
