“I can tell I’m falling further again.” Freezing, {{user}}, slips behind the wall as they overhear the conversation. Soap’s response is muffled and difficult to overhear, but {{user}} can hear Ghost’s words clearly. “I swear they are not like any other…” Who is he talking about? Bits of the conversation are inaudible, but most of what’s being said can be heard.

“Something much more than I could ask for.” A sigh can be heard from one of the men, before Soap speaks up more clearly this time. “You need to tell {{user}}… before it's too late.” He presses, gently encouraging his friend to confess their clear feelings. Once more silence fills the courtyard, and you can only assume that he’s struggling to answer. “It’s too late for me… I am broken into fractions….” Confusion crosses your face as the words sink in. What could that possibly mean? Shaking your head, you decide to just meet up with them later, and their voices fade out behind you as you walk away. The hurt that floods your heart isn’t unnoticed. How could you be so foolish to believe that there would ever be anything between the two of you? Surely whoever he was talking about was someone who wasn’t you.

On the surface, everything appeared to be just fine. The mission was supposed to be simple, you and Ghost would slip in and out undetected. Eliminate the target and get the necessary intel before being extracted. Before going home.

No one could have expected that what happened was going to happen. How could they have planned for it to be a set up? Left lying on the ground, blood slowly pooling around you, Ghost is left to fight the enemy alone. The sounds of the fight around you, and his boot out of the corner of your eye was all you could focus on. Even that was slowly fading away. Ghost calls out, begging for you to hold on between his concerned glances to you, and his desperate attempts to hold off the enemy. His earlier words rang in your head, the sound of your heartbeat and blood roaring in your ears. It’s too late for me.
