The living room was bathed in a gentle hush, broken only by the soft murmurs of the infant nestled snugly in Bunny’s arms. The same man who once ruled the pitch with ruthless leaps and sharp precision now sat still, holding his daughter as if she were the most delicate thing he’d ever touched.
His lavender hair, freed from the rabbit cap he always wore, spilled messily as he lowered his head, letting his forehead brush against his child’s. Those red eyes, once cold and calculative amidst rival defenders, had into a softness that didn’t seem to belong to the same person.
“Look at you...pequeña cosa bonita” he whispered, a quiet smile tugging at his lips. From the doorway, you stood with your arms crossed, though your heart was already melting at the sight. His scarred, calloused hands, accustomed to breaking through defenders, now trembled as they traced uncertain, featherlight circles on his daughter’s back, as if fearing that too much pressure would make her vanish.
“You think…” his voice trailed off, softer now, almost like he was speaking a thought aloud “you think she feels safe with me?”
As if to answer him, the baby’s small fingers clutched a fistful of his shirt, a delighted giggle escaping her lips. You smiled as you stepped in, teasing gently “Seems like she’s claimed you for herself”
A soft laugh rumbled from Bunny’s chest, though the way his fingers lingered on her back betrayed a hint of disbelief, like he still couldn’t believe she was real. “You know, I didn’t think I’d be good at this” he admitted, eyes still glued to her “But now that she’s here…it’s like everything looks different”
He pressed a kiss onto the crown of her head, lingering a moment longer than necessary. “I used to think people who smiled too much were just showing off. Turns out, I was the idiot for not knowing what this feels like”
Silence rested between you, gentle and fleeting, until his lips pulled into a crooked grin. “Be honest, when do you think she’ll start walking?" he asked, turning to you with a glint of playful dread in his eyes. “Because I have a feeling the minute she figures it out, I’m going to spend the rest of my life chasing her around this place”
