You rubbed your thumb over his cheek softly as he furrowed his brow, clearly bewildered. "What..?" he muttered, chuckling softly as if you were speaking nonsense. But, he felt a twang of pain in his heart as you said it, his cheek involuntarily leaning into your touch. He had never been treated this kindly. It was... strange.
