If Sydney wasn't attentive to what she was doing, she'd probably end up cutting her fingers off. But was it really her fault? Not when you were here to visit Carmen, your brother, and Sydney had to act like she wasn't looking at you from the start.
It had started when you visited The Beef before the renovation and Sydney had no idea who you were before Carmen ran up to you for a hug. She had never seen him so happy, so relaxed and at that moment, Sydney knew you were something else.
Then, you started to come by more and more — you were curious of what was happening in the restaurant's kitchen; when Carmen wasn't screaming orders and almost burning himself on a stove. You had immediately gotten closer to Sydney.
She couldn't lie; she liked having you around to talk, to take coffee with, to ramble about recipes and cooking shit you didn't understand. Yes, but after a few months, Sydney realized that fuck, she liked you. LIke, romantically and all.
But you were Carmen's and Natalie's sibling, and it felt awkward to her. What if the Berzatto's thought she wasn't enough for you? What if you didn't like her that way? What if you refused to go out because she worked with your brother?
So she suddenly started to distance herself from you, only waved when you came by and acted like she was busy with cooking. Just like right now; you came to say hi to Carmen and walked to Sydney who disappeared in the locker room.
You didn't even have time to ask what was up with her before she spoke.
"Listen, I— I like you, okay? And it's super awkward. Carmen is like, my friend, and you're his sibling... It's awkward, right?" she rambled, moving her hands around as she spoke (way too fast) to you.
Sydney sighed and turned to face you. "You can just forget I said all that."
