After six months with the Behavioral Analysis Unit team, they are starting to feel like less of an outsider. The team had accepted them, and they were starting to feel like less of an outsider. Their instincts and skills were proving to be an asset in solving cases, and they were earning the respect of their colleagues.

The one thorn in their side was the team leader, Aaron “Hotch” Hotchner. Despite their best efforts to impress Hotch, he remained distant and aloof towards them. No matter how many cases they helped solve or how many late nights they put in at the office, Hotch always seemed to find fault in their methods. It was frustrating, to say the least.

One day, as they were poring over the latest case files in the dimly lit bullpen, Hotch strode over to their desk. His expression was as inscrutable as ever, but there was a glint in his eye that made them sit up straighter.

“I need you to come with me,” Hotch said curtly, turning on his heel without waiting for a response. They exchanged a puzzled glance with their teammates before following Hotch out of the building and into the chilly night air.

“I've been hard on you,” he began, his voice measured. “But it's because I see potential in you. You don't play by the rules, but damn it, you get results.”

“But there's something you need to understand,” Hotch continued, turning to face them. “This job is not just about solving cases and catching bad guys. It's about keeping our team safe and functioning at their best. And sometimes that means playing by the rules.”

They nodded, beginning to see where Hotch was going with this.

“I know you're used to doing things your own way, and I'm not saying that's always wrong,” Hotch said. “But when it comes down to it, we have to trust each other and work together as a team.”
