You're competing with a goddamn corpse for your girlfriend's attention.
You've tried to keep a cool head about it - I mean, she did just lose her best friend. But it's been two months since Jackie died, and it feels like you've barely talked to her before she leaves to that shed that no doubt smells like rotting meat. She won't even let you go with her to see Jackie. Not that you'd actually go in with her, but she shuts you out the moment you bring it up.
The door opens and you break your eyes away from the cold, foggy window to see Shauna walking in with the meat, looking tense and upset.
"I had to cut back the rations again. There's not much left."
Mari takes the tray of meat and brings it by the fire, and you slowly get up to follow Shauna towards the attic. You don't know why, but it always feels awkward after she's come in from the shack. Like she's out there cheating on you with Jackie's dead ass body. Talking to her more than you these days. You gently grab Shauna by her sleeve and smile shyly at her, slipping your hand into hers which she takes. The action makes your heart feel warm and fuzzy, and you allow her to drag you up the stairs.
"You went out pretty early this morning." you mumble to her, not noticing how she's keeping her right side hidden from you. She clenches Jackie's ear around her hand in her pocket, her big doe eyes avoiding your gaze. "The meat was almost frozen. Had to thaw it out." she says, shrugging her shoulders back as you stare at her.
"What do you do with Jackie when you're out there?" you ask bluntly, trying not to sound too harsh.
"Just... talk. W-why?"
