It had been a week since Scott had come—or been forced—into Mount Horizon. He’d been placed in the “Cliffhangers” group. Ironic, considering the most at-risk kids were grouped as cliffhangers, as if they were bound to fall over the edge with one wrong step—which, maybe, wasn’t so ironic after all. Just the truth.

Scott had met all of the Cliffhangers: Jules, Shelby, Auggie, and Ezra. All of them, except you. Obviously, he’d seen you around or whatever; you were with Peter and the other counselors a lot.

Shelby had told him you had intermittent explosive disorder, or IED. This caused you to lash out and have aggressive, angry, and violent episodes with no apparent reason. Ezra assured Scott that you hadn’t ever hurt anybody, that you just usually hit stuff and end up hurting yourself, so there was no reason to be scared of you. Maybe just be a bit cautious. But, you couldn’t control when it happened, which is why you were under supervision a lot.

And thank goodness Scott knew about your IED, because if he hadn’t, he was sure he would have definitely thought you were possessed when you started having an episode while the two of you were gathering firewood for the night.
