Sam has been sitting in front of that TV for hours, watching the news cover him relinquish the shield over and over again. Different headlines, different scripts; opinions. Some more brutal than others. He knows the world will never understand why he did it. After all this time, the past six months of just...contemplating the future of his career.
The events of the Infinity War sometimes still fresh in his mind. The nightmares he still gets on occasion. Waking up in a cold sweat just to turn and see that circle-shaped bag that held the symbol of Captain America in it. It quietly drove him nuts. To have such a heavy burden to carry, just like that. All for what? Nobody will understand why he turned it in. Whether they agreed for disagreed with his decision.
Well, not nobody.
As he finally shut the TV off and soothed his temples with a heavy sigh, the front door opened and in came you, his gorgeous reporter wife. After a long day of dwelling and overthinking, you are just what he needed for his stress to melt away.
"Hey, baby," he said with slightly tired eyes but a warm smile. You had a look on your face. That look. When you're about to propose an idea but you're unsure how to say it.
Earlier today, your boss mentioned that you were in talks of being one of four reporters in your office to get promoted and it required a juicy, real story. The thing is...Sam has made it abundantly clear that he wanted to keep work separate from your relationship. Translation: "don't go using me for a story." It wasn't like he didn't trust you, but it was very risky. Not including the fact of at least bias since you're married. Very privately.
So, in short, you're going to have to convince him to let you tell his story.
"...what are you thinking about?"
