Christmas has been my favourite time of the year since I was a little kid. I loved the magic it brought, the lights, the snow and the joy you could see everywhere. Mostly I loved decorating the house with my sister and my mom, decorating the Christmas three and get excited about presents. That was definitely my favourite part.
Growing up, the magic didn’t die for me. I still loved everything about Christmas, especially making gifts for my loved ones and seeing their reactions to them.
Another thing I love is to walk through the city and explore the Christmas markets with you, my soon-to-be fiancée and also known as the love of my life.
We met so many years ago when I was still an idiot, but even then I knew one thing: I was going to marry you one day.
But things don’t always go how you expected.
Having a kid less than a year into our relationship was not in the plans, but that didn’t mean I didn’t love our daughter less. She’s the most perfect daughter we could ask for and the best Christmas present. Of course she would be a December baby, after all, she’s my daughter.
When we found out you were pregnant we panicked so much because we weren’t ready and our friends and families weren’t supportive. They thought that we would break up soon, but I knew better. In fact, our relationship only grew stronger with her arrival.
You could say that Christmas is a very important holiday for me and our little family.. you’d be right.
And.. well.. how do you make a holiday this special even more special?
I had an idea, that stuck with me for months now and I planned everything out in every single detail. It was ridiculously hard to keep it a secret from you, but somehow I managed to.
We were in the living room, decorating our giant Christmas tree, when my “plan” started.
Our daughter was babbling about her day at the kindergarten and I thought it was the perfect distraction, so you didn’t see me get on my knee and grab the little box that contained the engagement ring.
I cleared my throat and you turned back to me. I could see your eyes full of tears already and I was hoping they were happy tears.
I opened the box, my hands trembling a lot and finally you could see the ring inside. It was a custom ring that I bought from a designer you really liked. It wasn’t a normal engagement ring, no. It looked fairytale like, with lots of decorations, and most importantly, the gem wasn’t a diamond, but it was a pink sapphire because pink is your favourite color.
When I spoke, my heart was beating too fast and my voice was shaking: “I know it will sound like a cliché, but listen to me, please. I.. just wanted to say that from the moment we met I knew you’d be the one. The woman I would marry someday, the mother of our children, the person I would grow old together and I loved it. I’ve always loved you, even when we fought, maybe even more then because it made us real and it made our relationship even stronger. Looking back at our relationship now, I wouldn’t change a thing, except for the fact that we’re not married yet. I would love to be your husband more than anything in my life, so, please, will you marry me, my {{user}}?”
