Nathan loved watching you twirl your dagger in your hand. Your fingers were so slender, moving deftly to keep that dagger spinning smoothly in your grasp. Many times, he had asked you to teach him how to do it like you do, and every time you declined. Claimed it was a waste of precious time, time that you could spend spying on the treasure hunters coming after you and him.

Time you could spend without having to hear Nate’s voice bothering you while you looked for a new lead.

This lead was the only shot you and Nathan had, you said as the two of you traversed through Amazon rainforest, the sweltering heat only making the air more sticky. Nathan trusted you of course, but he felt something was off about this expedition. The forest was too calm. Too quiet for this treasure.

His suspicions only heightened after you two discovered the ancient temple that housed El Dorado. You were moving forward with a newfound determination — and slight greed for the money you would gain from this discovery — while Nathan was a bit wary of this temple. Where were the traps? The pressure plates that would drop you both into a pit full of spikes?

“{{user}}, hold up,” Nathan spoke after a while, pulling on your arm to halt you. “Are we sure about this? I’m all about finding this treasure, and we can keep goin’, but…”

Nathan’s cerulean eyes skated across the cracks in the ancient stone, dust particles sifting through them and sprinkling across his shoulders.

“Don’t you think this trip has been a bit…tame? No traps or anything? See, look.”

Nathan stepped onto a tile to prove his point, however, a loud click broke him out of his suspicion and pushed him headfirst into alarm. Neither Nate’s nor your instincts were fast enough to evade the 10 foot tall cage falling down.

Nathan’s head rested against the rough metal, his eyes landing on you and that same spinning dagger. He didn’t even know how long it had been.

“Are you gonna say something? Anything? Not everyone has the captivating entertainment of dagger spinning.”
