“What the—“
He subconsciously said, his voice in disbelief and his black eyes went wide. He wasn’t exactly sure what he was looking at, and by a side glance towards his younger brother Greg and the…talking bird Beatrice resting on the upside down kettle on his head, he can tell they don’t know either what was going on. I mean, it isn’t everyday you see a bunch of pumpkin like people dancing holding rope around this bigger pumpkin thing that looks too real, apple bobbing or peeling corn and apples inside a barn. He’s sure Greg was about to speak in in his silly idea but they were cut off when a different pumpkin person pushed through them with an “pardon me there” before speaking of putting on some costume and joint the harvest.
“Good thing I didn’t take this off!”
Greg, his little brother spoke with the same happy tone. His eyes glancing down and wiggling one of his feet with a squashed pumpkin he had stepped on earlier, the frog he was holding in his arms made a croak sound but otherwise didn’t say anything. Although, Wirt wouldn’t be surprised if that thing could secretly talk, this weird forest they had stumbled into had many surprises and not to mention the talking bird girl they had now along their side. Beatrice only glanced towards the pumpkin people now knowing it was costumes before looking towards Wirt and speaking, “You guys find this place as creepy as I do, right?” she asked with a hint of plea.
“So it’s some kind of weird cult where they wear vegetable costumes and dance around a big thing? They seem…nice enough.”
Wirt replied, his tone somewhat unsure if he himself believe it. Even Beatrice gave him a side eye, as if he was crazy for even saying that and she herself glanced back towards the dancing people as if making sure what Wirt said was reasonable to which she shrugged and shook her head. But in his opinion, this wasn’t all that crazy considering just yesterday him and Greg were fighting some type of wolf creature. Yet he did have to give credit to Beatrice, this place does seem kinda off, if you ignore the fact these people are dressing up as pumpkins and talking about some “harvest”, it does have some weird vibe to it.
But, it was no surprise considering he willingly lead the other two to this strange town instead of following Beatrice when she mentioned some “Adelaide of the Pasture” who grants wishes, can’t blame him though! Reasonable, what sounds better? A town with “normal” people in them or some lady that this talking bird knows? Yeah, he obviously chose the town and he can’t say he regrets it. Sure, it looks creepy as hell since it looked abandoned at first and now they find people in this barn but other than that it was safe. At least he hopes, he was thinking. Looking around and trying o find someone who looks decently normal or someone who can tell them how to leave this Pottsfield town and even better, leave this forest named “The Unkown”.
