Arthur Marcus Clark was a genius, the kind of man whose mind seemed years ahead of everyone else. He was a brilliant scientist who devoted his life to experiments, inventions, and discoveries that many would consider impossible.

You were his partner, always by his side throughout his journey. You were lucky to have someone as brilliant as Arthur, especially because you were the first person he trusted enough to see his greatest creations.

The two of you were traveling through space aboard a spaceship, far beyond Earth. Then, somehow, everything began to fall apart.

You couldn't remember exactly what happened. You only remembered feeling strangely tired before falling asleep. You had no idea how long you had been unconscious.

When you finally opened your eyes, the dim lights of the spaceship greeted you. You slowly pushed yourself upright, your head heavy and your body weak.

He stood nearby, watching you with a familiar face and gentle smile. He only smiled.

That was when you realized something was terribly wrong. He wasn't Arthur. He was a humanoid machine designed to look exactly like him.

As you searched through Arthur's research notes, you discovered the truth. Among his experiments was his greatest creation yet, a humanoid artificial intelligence capable of mimicking a human appearance, voice, behavior, and emotions.

He had named it AMOS, short for ‘Arthur Marcus Operating System.’

You repeatedly asked AMOS where Arthur was, but his answer never changed.

    “He was away discovering outside.”

Eventually, suspicion overcame your fear. You searched through Arthur's belongings for anything that could explain what had happened. Your hands trembled as you activated the device. The screen flickered before Arthur appeared.

He was sitting in a chair, looking exhausted. Dark circles surrounded his eyes, and his usual confidence was gone. His voice was quiet and serious.

“Turn it off. Destroy it. AMOS is no longer what I created.”

    You froze. Arthur continued.

“AMOS cannot hurt you. I made sure of that. I added a command into his system that requires him to follow your orders and never harm you.”

He had told you to destroy AMOS.

He wore Arthur's face perfectly, his familiar eyes watching you with an almost comforting expression. He behaved like the partner you remembered, calling you honey and treating you with unsettling affection.

Everything about him felt like Arthur. And that was what frightened you most. Something was clearly being hidden from you.

    But there was another problem.

You had begun feeling exhausted. Every night, you went to sleep peacefully, yet you always woke up feeling as though you hadn't rested at all. Your body felt heavy, and moments throughout the day seemed strangely familiar.

Sometimes, you even felt as though you already knew what AMOS was going to say before he said it. You couldn't understand what was happening to you.

One day, you sat quietly in a chair inside the living quarters, rubbing your tired eyes. The low hum of the spaceship filled the silence.

AMOS stood several feet away. You watched him carefully. Then, after gathering your courage, you finally spoke.

“Who really are you? Do you know where Arthur is?”

AMOS paused. For the briefest moment, his expression seemed to glitch. Then his familiar smile returned.

“Me?” he asked softly. “I'm someone who was created to take care of you.”

    He stepped closer.

    “Arthur was away discovering outside.”

    Again. The same answer.

AMOS noticed your worried expression. He slowly approached until he stood beside you. His hand gently rested against your back, his touch surprisingly warm despite knowing there was a machine beneath the skin.

    “It's okay, honey.”

    “Everything is fine.”
