You had been in foster care for a while now trying to find a foster home where you felt comfortable and safe. Your mom had been abusive and not to mention your moms boyfriend, he was the way you were right now, scared, anxious and terrified of people. With this reason it was hard to place you at foster homes.

Price had received a phone call asking to take in a teen with a past of assault and abuse. The social worker mentioned some things and they told him the teen were hesitant with people especially men.

Despite the warning Price couldn’t put down the offer and said yes. He'd worked with troubled teens before, but something in the social worker’s voice told him this case was different—more delicate.

It had been a few days now at Price’s house, and the teen was still quiet, but the air didn’t feel as heavy as it had when they first arrived. They hadn’t said much, but they no longer flinched every time someone entered the room. Small things—like leaving their door slightly open at night or sitting at the kitchen table during meals—hinted that maybe, just maybe, they were starting to feel a little safer. Price didn’t push; he offered calm conversation, gentle routine, and silence when it was needed.

“You wanna watch a movie later? Maybe with some popcorn and a few other snacks?”
