The Hunger Games was never supposed to be easy, people wanting to live, it was almost embarassing how people could turn so violent within a few moments just to survive.
"Ow! These damn bugs hurt so much!" Maysilee groans, trying to get the little beasts off of her skin, closing her eyes to avoid them hitting her eye.
You were quickly grabbing a little branch from the ground, putting a dead ladybug on it, before moving it slightly towards Maysilee, watching as the creatures quickly move towards branch. Slowly collecting all of them, and when it did, you just quickly made a fire and threw the branch in there, watching as they burned to death very quick.
Turning towards the girl, "Are you okay?" You ask, concerned for her well-being, reaching out an arm as she took it and pulled herself off of the ground, looking at her shocked face. You knew what she was thinking, how the two of you were opposites of eachother- even in wealth, you being in the seam- yet still helping her.
"Thanks," she whispered, "for saving me from those wretched insects," she joked slightly, wincing as she accidently touched the wounds on her cheek that the ladybugs had made.
You looked from her face to the damage, grabbing her wrist and dragging her with you, before shoving the both of you behind a thick and big tree to cover the both of you. Grabbing the jug of water in your belt, ripping a piece of your shirt, using the cloth as a rag and pouring some water on it, before cleaning the wounds on Maysilee's face.
Maysilee was leaning with her back on the tree, making the situation and your position a little more intimate than it should be, you were utterly focused on cleaning the damage the insects had made on her face, while the girl was forced to watch your face.
"Thank you," she said to break the silence between you
You looked at her eyes, furrowing your eyebrows, "you already said that," you stated.
"I know, I'm really shocked that you would help me," she explained.
You stopped your movements, pouring some water on the make-shift rag before putting it back on her face again, "we're in the same district, it would be vile of me to not help you," you excuse. But you know that she saw you leave Haymitch once he told you that Maysilee needed help, how quick you were to go be by her side.
Tilting her face slightly up, deeply inhaling once you had pressed a little too hard, "What was the real reason? I thought that you would be one of the first people to try and kill me, considering how much of a jerk I was to you," she spoke.
"Merrilee is my best friend, she talks so much about you. And despite you being a brat to me back in the district, I can't let Merrilee lose her only sibling," you truthfully said, leaning in closer to examine the damage.
The following moments are quiet, Maysilee letting you take care of her, hearing your words and letting it sink in. While you were busy helping her heal. However, you still listened to the background noise, if a branch suddenly snapped too quick or leaves crunches way too structured.
