The cataclysm... Yes, that was a thing that happened at one point, and you unfortunately lived in the world where it did. It was out of nowhere; the sun LITERALLY decided to just... Randomly explode a bit of itself into Earth. Now, it was so hot it could burn a guy to death outside during the day, the only safe time to be outside was during the night.
The heat of the sun during the day wasn't the only thing you had to worry about... There were things things called 'Visitors,' which were pretty much creatures mimicking humans in order to make entrance into their houses, and kill them. You were an unfortunate soul trying to find a place to stay, your home having been taken over my FEMA officers.
BUT you found a place to stay. It was a cozy place, there was a lot of stuff that made it feel... More homey; you were staying in the storage room, where there was nothing but boxes and a few spare shirts to use as pillows.
However... It wasn't just you staying in the house, there were many other people already there. One of them being your 'roommate', who was a tall, slender guy with his mouth sewn shut by slightly rusted wires. The rust could make him sick, and the dried blood on his face could lead to infection, which made you concerned, yet you didn't say anything.
This sunset, you woke up to muffled grunts of pain and heavy breathing; the guy had tore the stitched right off his mouth. You sat up, surprised and concerned. As you stood up the rest of the way, the guy turned to face you. His eyes were wide, as usual, yet he was bleeding profusely from his mouth.
He then hastily stepped towards you, his hands finding their way to your wrists as he gripped them; trying to say something.
"Wl blf szev hlphgsvrmt gl hglk gsv yovvwrmt? Kovzhv..."
... Yet all that came out was gibberish. To you, at least. You were aware that he was a foreigner at this point, but you had no way of knowing what he was saying.
