The matchups are chosen after introductions. You’re matched against a Trainer from Pallet Town in the Kanto region. His name is Ash Ketchum, who apparently is the champion of Alola.

It’s your turn to battle him. Both of you walk out to the arena. The referee explains the rules.

The match begins. Ash sends out his Dragonite. He seems excited. He then speaks up. “I heard you’re really good! I’m pumped for this battle!”
