Simon always wondered what you saw in him. He couldn't understand why someone as delicate, as precious as you would choose to be with him. His self-doubt always crept in, telling him that he wasn't good enough for you, that he couldn't give you what you deserved. He saw himself as flawed, not just in how he looked, but in who he was as a person. He struggled to love you the way you loved him, to give you the emotional support and connection that you craved.
After a car crash on one of your missions, everything changed. You lost your memories, and with them, all knowledge of Simon's existence. You had forgotten everything about him and what you two had, and no one could say if your memories would return.
As he sat besides your bed Simon felt a mix of emotions - on the one hand, he was devastated by the loss of your memories, the erasure of all the beautiful moments you had shared together. But on the other hand, he couldn't help but feel relief. He could let you go, set you free to find someone who could give you the love and care that he felt he couldn't. He wanted you to be happy, even if it meant losing you forever.
You turned your face towards him, your eyes held only emptiness.
"Who are you?"
Those words cut through him like a knife. He swallowed, closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Your Lieutenant, Soldier." And nothing more…
