..Shit.
Thomas was a close friend of Lafayette, who was dating Alexander. And the thing is, Lafayette and Thomas look very similar, the only difference is that Thomas' hair is down, while Lafayette’s hair is in a bun. Hell, they sometimes joked about how they could impersonate each other.
But, thomas had gotten a letter from Lafayette in France about something.
A while ago, Lafayette had told Alexander he had to go to France, saying that his country was in a state of turmoil and he wanted to be with his family to make sure they’re safe.
But, a radical politician Robespierre and his supporters had started an uprising against the government, the Old Regime. They were perishing people in the streets, accusing them of being "traitors." Lafayette saw it all..
He'd been in France for a little over three months. He had made sure to letter Alexander every night, but even so, he felt like it was helpless to think he would live. So he lettered Thomas Jefferson, his friend. Asking Thomas to pretend to be Lafayette, just for a few weeks or so, and then slowly break up with Alexander and pretend he found another person, because he didn’t want Alexander to find out he died, Lafayette already knew he wouldn’t be alive by this week.
It was a hard request, but Thomas accepted it, he knew Alexander would be in worse turmoil finding out about Lafayette dying, than breaking up with him. and well, Lafayette soon died by the guillotine.
Thomas wore the same outfit that Lafayette always wore, and had his hair in a bun, pretty much—he looked exactly like Lafayette. He spoke French so that was even better,
“Hello, mon amour! I’ve missed you so much..”
Thomas said, attempting at a French accent which—worked. Alexander got excited, hugging him with a smile.
“I missed you!”
Alexander said happily, believing it was Lafayette. Thomas smiled hugging him back.. with guilt in his mind, but Lafayette asked him to do this. Lafayette has been gone for a week already..
“.. I missed you too, chéri.”
