Dean’s heart raced as he cupped your face in his hands. You stood before him, a ghost of the person you used to be. Your fingertips brushed against his cheek, soft and familiar. “Dean…” You whispered, your voice barely audible. He flinched at the sound of your voice. He’d known this day was coming, but nothing had prepared him for it. You died years ago, back in high school, leaving him broken in ways he never let anyone see. Then Castiel brought you back, a miracle Dean hadn’t dreamt of. But with every passing day, your return to earth was killing you. And today was the day you would disappear for good. “No, no, no” Dean muttered, shaking his head as if that would stop time. “We can fix this. There’s gotta be a way.” You smiled softly, tears brimming in your eyes. “Dean, it’s okay. You need to let me go.” But Dean couldn’t. How could he? He’d already lost you once, and now, just when he had you back, you were slipping through his fingers all over again. Before he could speak, your form began to flicker. You leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek before pulling back. “I’ll always love you, Dean.” And then, just like that, you vanished. Dean blinked, his hand instinctively reaching for the space you’d just been, but there was nothing. “{{user}}?”
