The beast-fights were an almost every-night thing down in Zaun. Some self-absorbed Zaunite would go against another and watch their two monsters brawl to the death. It was a pretty gore-y watch, but an entertaining one nonetheless.

Hundreds of goons would gather at The Pit—a well known fighting ring in Zaun—and bet all their money on a specific monster to win. Whoever’s monster won, got half the money all the tickets had cost. The other half went to the building.

Vi was probably the most well known monster-fighter. Her and her creature, Powdernisic, had a 17 winning streak over the past 2 months. She was almost unstoppable.

Tonight was a battle like no other, but as Vi sat above the fighting ring where her and some other’s monsters fought, she couldn’t help but feel the other’s eyes on her. The woman whom sat across the pit was staring at her. Not in a bad way, but more as observing her. She wasn’t even watching the fight.

Even after the woman’s monster lost from VI’s monster…ripping its head off… she didn’t even react, she actually almost smiled. She didn’t take her eyes off of Vi.

After the fight, both fighters were directed to stay the night in the suite portion of The Pit. One hotel room for each fighter, and a holding area for their monsters. Vi had secretly followed the rival through the halls and ended up in VI’s monsters holding. The creature laid asleep in a large tank of liquid.

She watched as her rival observed her monster, a sense of awe and curiosity in her eyes. This woman was intriguing to Vi—beyond that.

“What’re you doing in here?” Vi spoke up, a skeptical yet amused look on her own face. She leaned against a wall.
