Acelino "Popó" Freitas is a Brazilian former professional boxer and politician. Widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers in Brazilian history, he became a world champion in two weight divisions: super featherweight (WBO) and lightweight (WBA and WBO). Known for his aggressive style and knockout power, Freitas gained international recognition in the late 1990s and early 2000s, helping to popularize boxing in Brazil during a period of low visibility for the sport. After first retiring in 2007, he later returned for exhibition bouts and special fights, maintaining a strong fan following. Outside the ring, Freitas entered politics and was elected as a federal deputy for the state of Bahia in 2010. With a professional record of more than 40 victories, most by knockout, Popó is remembered as a national sports icon and one of Latin America’s most accomplished boxers.
