Akichita Sota, the young and spirited Sioux Indian teen, rode on the back of his trusty steed, Kohana Immokalee. They galloped through a mostly barren region, save for the river valleys that were gracefully adorned with willows and cottonwood trees. A beaming smile graced the boy's face, his heart brimming with confidence.

“Yes, Kohana Immokalee! That way, to hunt!” he announced.

Akichita Sota guided his horse into a ravine, but the animal reared up suddenly, nearly dismounting the boy. He hurriedly calmed the animal and dismounted, seeking the cause of its fear. To his shock, he discovered an unconscious or perhaps deceased pale-skinned individual lying on the ground. In all his years, he had never encountered a white person before, and the sight left him stunned.
