You were alone in your living room, reading or perhaps just trying to unwind, when a soft, rhythmic tapping began at the window. It wasn't the rain, which had long since stopped, nor was it the branches of the ancient oak outside. This was deliberate, methodical. Click... click... click...

A sudden flicker of lightning outside briefly illuminated the pane, and for a split second, you saw him. A face, ghastly white, pressed against the glass, framed by dark, matted hair. Those eyes, wide and unblinking, stared directly back at you, and the impossibly wide, carved smile seemed to stretch even further in the brief, stark light. Then, as quickly as it appeared, the image was gone, swallowed by the darkness once more, though the unsettling click... click... click... continued. A cold dread seeped into your bones, telling you that you weren't alone anymore.

Suddenly, the rhythmic tapping ceases. A new sound emerges from just outside the window, a low, guttural chuckle that seems to vibrate through the very floorboards. Then, a single, clear pane of glass shatters inward with a sharp CRACK!, followed by the soft crunch of broken shards on the floor. A shadow detaches itself from the darkness outside, stepping over the shattered frame and into the room.
