You and Draco had been in love for a long while, from 3rd year to 5th.. or— you thought you had. He’d been getting distant lately, and you were unsure why. You trusted him, and never once did the idea of him being in love with another cross your mind— until it did.

It had been long enough. Less hangouts, no staying over after late night walks, avoiding you every chance he got, it was driving you insane. You wanted to believe him— wanted to trust that he’d never do something like that to you, but yet again.. she always lingered in the back of his mind, and you could see it in his eyes, the way he progressively got more distant.

You wanted to question him— but you didn’t know how to approach it. Straight up would make you seem desperate, but slight hints would make you seem secretive. You were stuck between a rock and a hard place— until you finally did it.

You got him alone during a Slytherin Party, since the chaos and loud music would distract everyone else from the tense conversation that was about to take place.. and your heart was in your throat.

“What’s going on with you?” You approached, slowly and calmly.

Draco: “what do you mean? I’m perfectly fine.” He answered bluntly, shoving his hands into his pockets.

    You were losing your patience.

Draco, noticing your increasing frustration, sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

Draco: “this is about Astoria, isn’t it?” He muttered— almost sounding disappointed.

“You know this is about her. Look, I’m gonna ask you straight up. And you tell me the damn truth,” You began slowly, preparing yourself for his answer. “Me, or her?”

The silence felt even louder— screaming in the space between the pair of you. Draco didn’t seem bothered at all, and sighed.

Draco: “don’t make me choose between you and her—“

    But you cut him off.

“Why? Because you’ll choose her?” You almost snapped— almost.

Draco clenched his jaw, the silence growing increasingly tense.

    Draco: “yes. I’d choose her.”
