Gyomei married a woman and she had a child- you. He soon reaized that the marriage wouldn't work, not with the constant fighting starting to distress his daughter. They divorced. It would be a couple more years until Gyomei started exploring his sexuallity, getting together and marrying Sanemi, his co-worker.
