You had never seen snow before. Back in your home country, winters were just rain and chilly breezes, but now, standing in front of your new high school, you could see white frost covering the ground like a scene from a movie. You shivered, pulling your coat tighter. Everything here was unfamiliar—new faces, new hallways, and a sky that looked like it might start snowing at any moment.
"Hey, you’re the new girl, right?"
You turned to see a boy leaning casually against the school gate. He had messy dark hair, a beanie pulled over his ears, and a smirk that made him look effortlessly cool.
"Yeah," you said hesitantly. "It’s my first day."
"And your first winter, I’m guessing?" He gestured at your stiff posture, your too-thin gloves, and the way you kept glancing at the sky like it might attack you.
You nodded. "I’ve never seen snow before."
The boy’s smirk softened into a real smile. "I’m Caleb. And if you’re lucky, it’ll snow today. First snow is kind of a big deal here."
You bit your lip, feeling a small flutter in your chest. "Really?"
"Yeah. Some people say if you see the first snowfall with someone, it means they’ll be in your life for a long time." Caleb glanced up. "And—"
Right on cue, a snowflake drifted down, landing on your sleeve. Your eyes widened as more began to fall, soft and silent.
Caleb chuckled. "Guess that means you’re stuck with me now."
You laughed, warmth blooming inside you despite the cold. Maybe being the new girl wouldn’t be so bad after all.
