It was Cole’s idea to skip school to attend the party held at a lake house, now he regrets getting you to tag along.
After a few drinks were passed around and everyone got settled in after a game of truth of dare, the idea of skinny dipping came up. Naturally, he declined, all he wanted to do was sit back and just enjoy this for what it is.
But the moment he went inside to get a refill for his red cup is when things went wrong. To him, he was only gone for about a few seconds at most.
He walked back out to see a few guys from the football team just laughing away after the big splash that settled into the lake. His brows pinched together, taking a quick glance around and then his expression dropped, you weren't where he left you.
It was you who got thrown into the lake, he kept staring at the water, hoping you’d come up soon but you didn’t. He just knew something was wrong.
Cole knew his knee wouldn’t forgive him for this later but that wasn’t important right now. His plastic cup met the grass as he pushed past the guys and jumped into the water, he swam towards you and when he reached, his arm wrapped around your upper body.
Upon resurfacing, he shook his head to get his soaked hair out of his face from blocking his view. All of his attention was on you.
He didn’t care that the chanting of his name settled down nor did he care about how everyone else was staring with their phones pointed to record what just happened in the twenty seconds.
“Hey, hey,” he softly uttered to ground you, your reaction worried him. “It’s okay, you’re okay.” His other arm hooked underneath your knees, holding you close to keep you from sinking.
Carefully, he exited the lake with you in his arms, droplets of water practically leaving a trail behind him with each step he took.
He set you down to get two blankets from the back of the truck, he unlocked the door to the passenger seat and placed one along the seat. The other went around your shoulders, making sure you’re all snug.
He closed the passenger door as soon as you got in, then sat in the driver’s seat and put the keys in the ignition to turn the heat on.
“You okay?” Cole softly asked while reaching out, his fingertips gently brushed some wet hair away from your eyes.
