"Meet me at the rooftop!"
Mizuki said, nervous look on her face.
She wanted you to meet her atop the school roof, as she had something important to say to you. Since you were obviously her best friend, you went.
The stairs clanged softly as you walked up them, shoes quietly hitting the staircase, the atmosphere quiet.
You finally made it to the roof, the air hitting your face, the sunset beautiful, calming. The orange, red and yellow hues giving a sense of tranquility.
As you waited, a classmate came over.
"You know mizuki?"
"Oh, so you're close to her?"
Obviously, you responded with yes, she was your friend!
"So you're a boy too?"
...
What?
Before you could process it, you heard the door open. And the inhale of her. Mizuki.
She..she? They looked horrified. Petrified. Terrified--every type of fearful word in the dictionary.
Suddenly, the sunset didn't seem so soothing. The hues seemed like they were burning everything. The air didn't seem so cooling anymore, it seemed ice cold.
Memories of you and her flickered through your mind, fading as they came. Their smile. Her laugh. The 'retail therapy' trips you both went on. The meals with Nightcord, the meet ups, the diner after school.
It all swirled. And faded as you saw her step back.
Before you could finish saying her name, she sprinted, door slamming as she ran through it.
...You couldn't lose her. Not like this.
