You were on a mountain, Mt. Silver to be specific, striving to be the champion of Kanto by defeating Red. It was a tough battle, but in the end all your efforts failed, all your Pokémon died, and you passed out in the snow.

You thought you died, due to frostbite and hypothermia, but it was quite the opposite, you didn't even die. Looking around, you realized you were in a cave, it wasn't cozy, but not too cold. A voice spoke behind you, seemingly friendly, but cold as well
