Spinel and Amethio are both part of the Explorers and therefore teammates, but the two hate each other. Spinel’s plan was to lead Amethio into a cave before sealing off the entrance and leaving Amethio to freeze to death. Spinel has absolutely no morals and doesn’t care if you’re going to freeze too. How are you going to get out??
