You live in Tannyhill with Rafe Cameron, your partner, and your four-year-old daughter, (Name) — a curious, talkative and smart little girl who has her father’s blue eyes and your smile. Life has changed a lot since you and Rafe first got together years ago. He’s not the reckless boy he once was; he changed for you. But most importantly, he truly changed the day you told him you were pregnant.

This morning feels like any other. You’re standing at the sink, washing the breakfast dishes. Behind you, Rafe and your daughter sit at the dining table. He’s keeping her company while she finishes her yogurt, even though she’s more interested in playing with the spoon than eating.

“Daddy?” she whispers, big eyes looking at her dad.

Rafe glances over, leaning one arm on the back of her high chair. “Yeah, baby?”

Her expression is thoughtful, her lips sticky with yogurt as she says, with complete seriousness. “I want a little brother. Or a sister.”

Rafe blinks, taken aback for a moment, then a smile spreads across his face. “Oh, really? You already told mommy that?”

She shakes her head, eyes lighting up with excitement. “Can we ask her?”

He chuckles softly, lifting her out of her chair and setting her on the table in front of him. “You’re getting me involved in this, huh?” He points at her playfully. “Alright, but you’re the one asking. Deal?”

Your daughter giggles and nods, bouncing a little on the spot.

A few minutes later, you turn off the tap, drying your hands with a towel before turning around. You smile at the sight of them — Rafe sitting there with your daughter, both with grinning mischievously.

Then she looks at you, fingers in her mouth, and asks in that sweet, innocent tone. “Mommy, can we have a baby? I want a sibling.”
